M/F Project Site Manager, CongoMy client is currently in the pre-feasibility phase for a mining project in the Congo (Congo Brazzeville). In addition to the mining infrastructure, the project entails the construction of a railway and of a mining port.
The mine site is situated in a remote location, with around 300 people on site. The site is now expanding and my client is seeking an experienced Project Site Manager, who as site representative of the overall project management, will co-ordinate all site activities and supervises the field project.
The mission : Reporting to the Project Director based in England and operationally to the Assistant General Manager, the Project Site Manager:
- will advise and assist the Project Director with the leadership and overall management of the project as it pertains to the site
- will work with the Project Director to ensure the delivery of the business objectives
- will manage major contractors and subcontractors, ensuring that all contracts run to budget and to schedule
- will supervise and co-ordinate all aspects of the site including planning, delivery of materials and site services, ensuring that solutions to problems are resolved
- will co-ordinate with on-site departments activities including environment, health, safety, catering, community relations, logistics, geology, construction.
- Will provide management with budget forecasts and reports
- Will establish co-operative and productive relations with local authorities and communities.
The profile : - Proven experience in managing remote site projects.
- It is essential to have strong project management systems experience, preferably in a mining environment but this is not essential.
- Highly developed leadership skills to promote high performance team work and a sound work ethic.
- Ability to implement safety, environment and quality systems
- Advanced planning skills, excellent communication, administrative and budgeting competencies, developed negotiation, people management and the skill in promoting team-work.
- Cross-cultural management effectiveness and significant experience of working in Africa are essential. This includes the willingness to develop a deep understanding of local culture as well as ease in working in a multicultural environment.
- Complex problem solving skills, drive and enthusiasm to ensure delivery of project services
- Fluency in French as the official language of the Republic of the Congo and in English as the working language in the Group and its partners.
- Willingness to live in a remote location on a FIFO basis
- The successful candidate will work on a consultancy basis (invoicing the Company)on a 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off FIFO basis (Fly in fly out).
