Manager (M/F) - Rail Operations
My client is one of the leaders in their field with operations on all continents and a strong pipeline of exciting projects. The Group takes a long term and responsible approach to its business combined with a leadership style and culture that consistently creates business value.
A mega project which is planned to become a significant supplier to world markets is underway in Guinea. It involves the design, implementation and operation of a major mine, railway and a deep water port.
The mission :
The mission of the Manager – Rail Operations will be threefold. During the study and design phase, your primary purpose will be to provide operational input to the study teams so that the evaluations of rail options take full account of operational issues.
Secondly you will manage the commissioning of the rail infrastructure, giving particular attention to the introduction and implementation of all operating systems. Once commissioned, the role will be responsible for operational management of this domain.
You will be responsible for ensuring strict compliance for health and safety standards and for ensuring that all activities are conducted in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner.
This key role, reporting to the General Manager Operations, will have critical impacts on the success of the Guinea project, on the sustainable development and optimization of resources and on all stakeholders in the project through the establishment of productive relationships. The role will be based in Guinea.
The profile :
This role requires
• At least 10 years experience in the design and operational management of high-capacity industrial rail operations, as well as in commissioning or starting up operations from scratch. Experience in the mining industry will be a considerable advantage.
• Highly developed leadership skills in the areas of management, organization, health and safety systems. Also required are complex problem solving abilities as applied to both the strategic and operational domains.
• Proven technical abilities in order to interpret and interrogate rail design models as well as to evaluate and define alternative infrastructure and operating system options.
• Experience working in developing economies, preferably in Africa.
• Fluency in French as the official language of Guinea and English as the working language of the Group.
